Tigers Lose San Diego Tournament Opener

The South Pasadena High School varsity baseball team lost to Bakersfield Christian High, 10-0, in its San Diego Lions Tournament opener on Monday.

Junior Nolan Adams walked once and stole a base, senior Carlo Maling had four strikeouts over 2.2 innings and junior Owen Woodworth had one strikeout in 1.1 innings.

South Pas (10-7 overall, 4-2 in league) will resume Rio Hondo League action by hosting La Cañada on Monday, April 10, at 3:30 p.m.

EL RANCHO 6, SPHS 0

The Tigers recently lost a nonleague game against visiting El Rancho High of Pico Rivera.

Senior Ivan Becerra went 2-for-3, senior Jason Yipp, sophomore Jon Bracamonte and Adams each had a base hit, and juniors Luke Riffle and Griffin Johnson each walked once. Senior Jack Holley recorded three strikeouts, two walks and no hits over three scoreless innings while senior Ben Petrillo had two strikeouts over two innings.

SPHS 10, MARY STAR 2

The Tigers snapped a two-game skid by beating host Mary Star of the Sea High in San Pedro in a nonleague game.

Junior Devin Robinson went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs while junior Elijah Garcia went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base. Holley went 2-for-5 with a double while junior Jesse Chavez went 2-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Bracamonte, who had a hit, a run and a walk, finished with four strikeouts and three hits over three scoreless innings. Becerra, who had a double, an RBI and a run, had two strikeouts over one inning in relief, and sophomore Ben Regan allowed two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over three innings. Yipp registered a double while Adams and Riffle each tallied a hit, a run, an RBI and a walk. Senior Jude Felix produced a hit and a walk, sophomore Raphi Hall had a base hit and Petrillo scored once.
