South Pasadena Students Throw Shades on for Solar Eclipse

South Pasadena Unified School District students, faculty, staff and administration this week celebrated the viewing of a partial solar eclipse, which drew crowds across Southern California to witness the much-anticipated event.
All SPUSD schools celebrated the partial eclipse in different ways. The middle school’s science department shared the science behind the eclipse, planning activities and special lessons to share with the students. SPMS ASB purchased special viewing glasses for all students and entertained everyone with themed eclipse music.
Elementary students also participated in a variety of viewing activities on each campus using the necessary safety precautions. Students were able to view the eclipse during recess and lunch, while some also listened to a special eclipse playlist during the event.
“Thanks to the Marengo PTA for providing eclipse viewing glasses for all the elementary schools,” SPUSD said in a statement. “High-schoolers viewed the eclipse using special glasses and handmade viewing tools like pinhole viewers for a prime eclipse experience.”
