Boys’ Volleyball: South Pasadena Captures Share of League Crown

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated host Temple City in four games, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 26-24, in their regular-season finale on April 16. The victory helped the Tigers secure a share of the Rio Hondo League title, splitting the honors with rival San Marino with a 7-1 record (20-13 overall).
Junior Jack Pellerin racked up 14 kills, four blocks and one dig, while sophomore Conan Lafferty registered 14 kills, 10 digs and five blocks. Junior James Dowd contributed 11 kills, five blocks and three digs, while junior Martin Walsh finished with 19 digs, 10 kills and four aces. Senior Ian Chang was credited with 28 assists, seven digs and one ace, senior Ryan Estanislao tallied 20 digs, three assists, two aces and one kill, and senior Nigel Mundara recorded 20 assists, six digs and one ace. Freshman Liam Johnson produced five kills, two blocks and two digs, while junior Jacob Chuang had four blocks, one kill and one dig.
SPHS opened the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on April 25; the match ended after the Review’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Tigers would advance to the second round and meet either Millikan High of Long Beach (15-8) or St. Margaret’s High of San Juan Capistrano (27-4) on April 27.
