South Pasadena High School welcomed athletes and fans to Ray Solari Stadium for two days of competition during the South Pasadena All City Track Meet on April 19-20.
The long-standing community event, which began in 1981, is organized by the PTA and includes all four elementary schools in the area: Marengo, Arroyo Vista, Monterey Hills and Holy Family. This year, 785 participants registered to compete and 300 volunteers helped with the many details and months of planning that makes the city’s large events possible.
“We couldn’t do it without all our volunteers and the support of Athletic Director CB Richards and the SPHS Track team,” reflected co-chairs Megan Gardner and Gina Loyonnet.
During the first day of competition, third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students participated in field events, such as the long jump, high jump and shot put. Day two centerd on running events with students kindergarten through fifth grade completing in relay and individual races.
Schools distinguished themselves with T-shirts of different colors with Monterey Hills in purple, Marengo in orange, Arroyo Vista in green and Holy Family in navy blue.
