Boys’ Volleyball: Tigers Sweep El Rancho in Home Opener

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ volleyball team swept visiting El Rancho High of Pico Rivera, 25-21, 25-23, 28-26, in a nonleague match on Feb. 26.
Junior Jack Pellerin finished with nine kills, two blocks and one dig, junior James Dowd recorded eight kills, three blocks and two digs, and junior Martin Walsh tallied 13 digs, five kills, two aces and one block. Senior Ian Chang racked up 20 assists, 17 digs and three aces, senior Kai Munoz contributed 18 digs and four assists, and senior Ryan Estanislao collected 13 digs. Senior Nigel Mundara registered six digs and four assists, while freshman Liam Johnson chipped in six kills. Sophomore Kyle Kirchen produced one kill and one dig, while senior Isaiah Hyun had one kill. Sophomore Wyatt Morimoto-Woo had two digs, while freshman Lorcan Swift had one dig.
The Tigers suffered a four-game loss at Flintridge Prep, 23-25, 24-26, 25-22, 9-25, in their season opener on Feb. 21.
Chang finished with 18 assists, while Dowd registered 10 kills. Walsh tallied eight kills and one ace, while Mundara contributed eight assists and one ace. Pellerin recorded seven kills, Hyun produced five kills and junior Jacob Chuang chipped in four kills. Swift was credited with two kills, while Kirchen had one kill.
South Pas (1-1 overall) will compete in the Nevada Tournament on March 1 before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on March 5.
