A free compost and mulch giveaway will be held at the Arroyo Golf Course Parking lot on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. until noon.
The event is for South Pasadena residents only. Anyone interested is encouraged to bring a sturdy container and shovel. The giveaway is limited to two 35-gallon containers per household. Proof of residence is required; an I.D. or utility bill is sufficient proof of residence.
The compost is donated by Athens Services and is a mixture of decayed organic material, including food waste, and is used for enriching soil. Athens compost is certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program.
Mulch, donated by West Coast Arborist, is chipped tree trimmings or bark groundcover. It works as an insulator, maintaining the temperature of soil and roots to reduce evaporation and the formation of weeds.
