Boys’ Tennis: South Pasadena Boasts Unbeaten Start

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ tennis team picked up a 12-6 Rio Hondo League victory at Temple City on March 18.
In singles, No. 1 Aidan Liu won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1, No. 2 Lucas Cornforth won a pair of sets with scores of 7-6 (8-6) and 6-1, and No. 3 Emilio Lois added a 6-2 victory.
The No. 1 doubles team of Christopher Wong and Zachary Lee swept with scores of 7-6, 6-3 and 6-0. The No. 2 tandem of Sebastian Thompson and Emett Mendel won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-4, while the No. 3 duo of Jean-Luc Andre and Dylan West won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
The Tigers overwhelmed visiting Cerritos with a 15-3 nonleague victory on March 14.
No. 1 Liu won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 7-5 before alternating with Louis Jones, who added a 6-4 victory to complete the sweep. No. 2 Cornforth won a set with a 6-2 score before alternating with David Chong, who added a 6-3 victory. No. 3 Lois won a set with a 6-2 score and added a second victory via forfeit. The No. 1 doubles team of Wong and Lee sweet with scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, while the No. 3 tandem of Andre and West won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 2 duo of Mendel and Thompson won a set with a 6-4 score. Mendel rotated with Max Slattery, and the new tandem added 6-0 and 6-4 victories to complete the sweep.
South Pasadena (6-0 overall, 2-0 in league) will visit La Cañada for a league match on March 22 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Glendora on March 25.
