Boys’ Tennis: Thompson, Mendel Power Tigers Past Rams

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ tennis team picked up a narrow 10-8 victory over visiting Temple City in a Rio Hondo League match on April 12.
The No. 2 doubles team of Sebastian Thompson and Emett Mendel swept with scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4. The No. 1 tandem of Christopher Wong and Max Slattery won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 7-5, while the No. 3 duo of Dylan West and Jean-Luc Andre added a 7-5 victory. No. 1 Aidan Liu won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-3, while No. 2 Lucas Cornforth (6-0) and No. 3 Louis Jones (6-2) each won a set.
The Tigers (10-2 overall, 5-1 in league) will host La Cañada for a league match on April 19 at 4 p.m. before hosting Monrovia for their regular-season finale on April 22. SPHS will then send individuals to compete in the Rio Hondo League Tournament on April 24 and 25.
