The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ tennis team defeated visiting Monrovia 16-2 in their regular-season finale on April 22.
The No. 1 doubles team of Zachary Lee and Christopher Wong swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1. The No. 3 duo of Emett Mendel and Sebastian Thompson swept with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 2 tandem of Lucas Cornforth and Aidan Liu swept with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4.
No. 1 singles player Emilio Lois swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, while No. 3 Jean-Luc Andre (6-0, 6-0) and No. 2 Max Slattery (6-0, 6-1) each added a pair of victories.
The Tigers secured a crucial 10-8 victory over visiting La Cañada in a Rio Hondo League match on April 19.
No. 1 Liu (6-0, 6-2), No. 2 Cornforth (6-1, 6-2) and No. 3 Lois (6-4, 7-5) each won a pair of sets in singles play. The No. 1 doubles team of Wong and Lee won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4, while the No. 2 tandem of Mendel and Thompson won a pair of sets with identical 7-5 scores.
South Pasadena picked up a 12-6 nonleague victory at Crossroads High in Santa Monica on April 17.
The No. 1 doubles team of Wong and Lee swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-4. The No. 2 tandem of Mendel and Thompson won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-3, while the No. 3 duo of Dylan West and Slattery added a 6-3 victory. No. 1 Liu (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Cornforth (6-2, 6-3) and No. 3 Lois (6-2, 6-2) each won a pair of sets in singles play.
South Pasadena (13-2 overall, 7-1 in league) sent individuals to compete in the Rio Hondo League Tournament on April 24 and 25; the results were unavailable by the Review’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 11 a.m.
