Track And Field: South Pas Shines at First Invitational

South Pasadena High track and field athletes opened their season among a field of 20 teams at the Crescenta Cañada Distance Invitational at La Cañada High School on Feb. 17, with several top marks to end the day.
Tigers junior Abigail Errington won the 1,600-meter race, breaking a school record set three decades ago in a time of 5 minutes, 00.96 seconds. The previous mark was set by Sarah Etman, who clocked in at 5:03.04.
South Pasadena junior Saidbh Byrne followed her teammate in second, setting a personal record of 5:20.94 to complete the race.
Errington and Byrne partnered with freshman Alice Rowley and junior Sofia Humphrey to win the 4×400 relay in 4:27.60.
On the boys’ side, Tigers senior Keeran Murray finished third in the 1,600, clocking in at 4:29.98. South Pasadena freshman Michael Scarince was not far behind his Tigers teammate, finishing fourth in the 1,600 with a personal-best time of 4:30.55, a new freshman record.
Murray, a CIF State medalist in the 800 last year, and Scarince teamed up with Tigers senior Mitchell Westlake and junior Adam Ruiz to finish second in the boys’ 4×400 relay.
