South Pasadena High School junior Abigail Errington and the Tigers girls’ cross-country team recently made their mark at the prestigious Woodbridge Cross-Country Classic held at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine.
Errington won the individual rated varsity race, clocking in at a school-record 16 minutes, 45.2 seconds to help the Tigers win the overall team event with 224 points, ahead of runners-up Vista Murrieta and Carson.
The varsity girls’ team won set a school record with an overall mark of 1:30:09.8. Tigers junior Saidbh Byrne was the next top finisher for SPHS, coming in at 18th in 17:44.8. South Pas junior Sofia Humphrey (38th, 18:11.8), junior Chloe Koo (68th, 18:31.7) and sophomore Raden Estridge (99th, 18:56.3) rounded out the top five finishers in the competition.
The varsity boys’ team was led by freshman Michael Scarince, who finished 60th in 15:09.9. His impressive finish not only broke Sam Pons’ long-standing school record but it was also the second fastest time among freshmen in California to date. Tigers sophomore Kai Tilley (155th, 15:53.1), junior Noah Aldana (178th, 16:01.2), senior Jarvis Kikekawa-Fraser (210th, 16:15.2) and junior Kallean Beebe-Read (212th, 16:15.7) rounded out the top five finishers for South Pasadena, which placed 35th overall in the team competition.
