Swimming: Wong, Mancera-Rodriguez Earn Top Marks at CIF Finals

South Pasadena High School was represented by standout individuals at the CIF Southern Section Swimming & Diving Championships.
In a pool of Division II and III competitors at Mt. San Antonio College on May 4, Tiger juniors Samantha Wong and Ana Mancera-Rodriguez earned top-10 finishes in their respective races.
In the girls’ Division II competitions, Wong finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 3.80 seconds. She also placed seventh in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.34.
Mancera-Rodriguez was seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.47. She also finished 12th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.25.
The 200 free relay team of Elaine Kim, Chloe Kim, Wong and Mancera-Rodriguez finished 17th with a time of 1:43.18. In the 400 free relay, Elaine Kim, Chloe Kim, Wong and Mancera-Rodriguez placed 18th with a time of 3:50.17.
The three-day CIF State Swimming & Diving Championships began Thursday, May 9 at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex at Clovis West High School. The Swimming and Paralympic Finals begin Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m.

BOYS’ TEAM
The Tigers boys’ team competed in the CIF Southern Section Division III prelims at Mt. San Antonio College on May 1.
The 200 medley relay team of Ethan Kang, Gabriel Chiu, Grant Judkins and Kyler Ho finished 19th with a time of 1:45.39. The 200 free relay team of Philip Lim, Noah Park, Judkins and Ho placed 20th with a time of 1:33.79. In the 400 free relay, Jackson Lesnever, Ho, Park and Lim finished 28th with a time of 3:31.05.
Judkins secured 20th (56.22), while Ho was 26th (56.57) in the 100 butterfly. Lim (1:01.70) placed 23rd, Judkins (1:01.84) finished 25th and Chiu (1:03.27) was 30th in the 100 breaststroke event.
Park finished 26th in the 200 free event with a time of 1:54.41, while Lim was 28th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.84. Ethan Jung and Kang finished 31st and 32nd in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:00.37 and 1:00.49, respectively.
