Plans Underway for ‘Operation Cookie’ at Woman’s Club

It’s time to start making plans to shop for cookies at your favorite bakery and market or select a  special cookie recipe to make in conjunction with “Operation Cookie” for hospitalized  and special needs veterans.  Donations of all cookies are welcomed and sugar-free cookies are especially needed.

The event, sponsored by the Woman’s Club of South Pasadena, will be held on Wednesday May 24, at the organization’s clubhouse at 1424 Fremont Ave.

“Operation Cookie” sends decorative containers of cookies to veterans’ hospitals for distribution to patients in spinal cord Injury facilities; general and post surgery; nursing and convalescent care, and the psychological post-traumatic stress care units. The cookies are distributed throughout the Southland,  including to the Wounded Warriors Battalion at Camp Pendleton, Military Women in Need,  to homeless veterans served by the VA and to other groups serving physically and emotionally challenged men and women veterans. One of the groups, the Jimmy Miller Foundation in Manhattan Beach, uses ocean therapy and surfing lessons to help the rehabilitation process of many veterans.

Cookies (a minimum of two dozen is requested) can be delivered to the Woman’s Club between 7 a.m. and noon this Wednesday. Alternate delivery is the evening before between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. Convenient curbside drop-off is available both days.

The club, which is also seeking volunteers to help pack the cookies into decorative containers, welcomes financial donations to help defray cost of materials used for Operation Cookie. For further information, call 213-300-9305.
