The South Pasadena High School football team looked to have turned a new leaf with their dominating performance over Marshall High in Los Angeles.
But the Tigers were dealt a 28-20 loss at Heritage Christian in Northridge last week.
South Pas (1-3 record) had a chance to tie the game late with the ball near the Warriors’ 15-yard line but could not convert on fourth down, essentially ending the contest.
Tigers quarterback Noah Aragon finished the night completing nine of his 18 passes for 87 yards, with a touchdown and interception. He added eight carries for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Senior teammate Jack Riffle added 26 carries for a team-high 151 yards and a rushing touchdown and two catches for 12 yards. Senior Alexander Gonzalez contributed eight carries for 65 yards and two catches for 14 yards, junior Quinn Stirling had one catch for 15 yards and junior Richard Conti led all receivers with four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Tigers were led by senior linebacker Jaden Castellon, who totaled five tackles and one interception, and junior cornerback Aidan Kinney, who added three total tackles (one of which that went for a loss). Freshman defensive end James Dowd had another impactful night by adding three tackles of his own, with one going for a loss (his third in two games).
SPHS played its final non-league game and defeated Alhambra (1-3 record) 45-27 this past Friday night. A recap from that game can be found in the Sept. 24 print issue of the South Pasadena Review.
