Sheriff, South Pasadena Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing of Woman

By City News Service

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of an elderly woman found inside a South Pasadena home, authorities said Wednesday.
“The investigation is ongoing and dynamic,” said South Pasadena Police Chief Brian Solinsky in a statement. “Detectives from South Pasadena and the Sheriff’s Department have been working tirelessly to uncover what happened. My deepest sympathy and sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim.”
The stabbing was reported around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on the 800 block of Brent Avenue, near Mission Street, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
South Pasadena officials said police and fire personnel arrived on the scene within minutes of being called, and paramedics pronounced the victim, a woman in her 70s, deceased due to apparent stab wounds to her upper torso. There appears to be no signs of forced entry into the residence, according to a statement.
“The victim was discovered through kind of like a welfare check,” sheriff’s Lt. Michael Modica told reporters.
The victim’s identity will not be released until the next of kin has been notified, as of June 5.
The sheriff’s department is assisting South Pasadena police in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or online at SIBmedia24hrs@lasd.org.
