Marengo Student Takes Home Gold

Marengo Elementary fourth-grader Alexis Bowers, alongside partner Scarlett Arauz, recently clinched two gold medals at the international young entrepreneurs’ event.
Bowers and Arauz, who is from Missouri, emerged as champions at the “Bullpen of Champions,” hosted by Ascend Now in Hong Kong this past weekend. The event featured 200 young participants from around the world, each pitching innovative business ideas focused on sustainability and social impact.
Their project, “Lunch Crunch,” a food delivery service for public schools, first gained recognition by winning an initial competition on April 5, which qualified them for this prestigious international event. Their continued excellence in Hong Kong led them to win two gold medals — one for their age group and another for the overall competition.
The victory was celebrated with a day of fun at Hong Kong’s Ocean Park, marking a memorable end to a successful event. Judges praised all participants for their articulate and confident presentations, highlighting the importance of communication skills in entrepreneurship. With this win, Browers and Arauz showcased the potential and drive of young entrepreneurs to make a positive impact.
