Softball: Stirling, Kan Slug Homers in Lopsided Victory

The South Pasadena High School varsity softball team overwhelmed visiting San Marino with a 12-1 Rio Hondo League victory on April 22 as Lucia Atencio pitched a five-inning complete game with three strikeouts.
Danica Stirling blasted a grand slam home run and recorded an additional run and a walk, while Natalie Kan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two additional runs, a walk and a stolen base. Emma Becerra produced a hit, two RBIs, a run and a walk, while Sydney Lee finished with a hit, two RBIs and a run. Caitlyn Colmenares tallied three walks, while Leilah Nolasco scored two runs and walked once. Mia Dearborn scored a run and stole a base, while Talula Bearden and Adelaide Bertolina each scored a run.
The Tigers picked up a narrow 2-1 nonleague victory over visiting Alhambra on April 20 as Atencio pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.
Sophomore Racquel Dominguez went 2-for-3 with a double, Nolasco recorded a hit and a run, and Megan Sung and Bearden each tallied a base hit. Becerra finished with an RBI and a walk, while Kan was credited with an RBI. Lee scored a run, while Stirling walked once.
South Pasadena lost to visiting La Cañada 9-2 in a league game on April 19. Kan, who had a hit, an RBI and a walk at the plate, pitched a complete game with two strikeouts.
Sung registered a hit, while Lee finished with a pair of stolen bases and scored a run. Stirling walked twice, Nolasco and Colmenares each walked once, and Becerra scored a run.
South Pasadena (9-14 overall, 4-7 in league) visited Monrovia for its regular-season finale on April 25; the league game ended after the Review’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 27 at 10 a.m.
