Baseball: South Pas Unable to Shake Off Alhambra

The South Pasadena High School varsity baseball team suffered a narrow 3-2 loss against visiting Alhambra in a nonleague game on April 2.
Junior Leo Castillo, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched three innings with five strikeouts, while junior Ben Regan pitched four innings with four strikeouts. Senior Devin Robinson registered a double and an RBI, while junior Jon Bracamonte finished with a double and a run. Senior Elijah Garcia recorded a hit, a run and a stolen base, while senior Jesse Chavez produced a hit and an RBI. Senior Nolan Adams tallied a base hit, while senior Griffin Johnson walked once.
The Tigers lost to Ridgeview High of Bakersfield 7-4 in their San Diego Tournament finale on March 28.
Adams, who had a hit and an RBI at the plate, pitched 4 1/3 innings with one strikeout, while Regan pitched 1 1/3 innings with one strikeout and no walks. Robinson registered a double and a run, Garcia contributed a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, and Bracamonte produced a hit and an RBI. Sophomore Aaron Kawasaki and Chavez each finished with a hit and a run, senior Luke Riffle, Johnson and Castillo each tallied a base hit, and junior Harley Arrieta stole a base.
South Pasadena defeated Palo Verde Valley High of Blythe 12-8 in a tournament game on March 27.
Johnson went 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base, while Kawasaki went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs and an RBI. Bracamonte went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, a run and a walk, Garcia went 2-for-5 with a run and a stolen base, and Castillo finished with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk. Adams and Riffle each contributed a hit, an RBI and a run, while Robinson recorded a hit and a stolen base. Junior Aidan St John and Chavez each scored a run, while junior Nathan Olivarez stole a base. Senior Owen Woodworth pitched 2 1/3 innings with one strikeout, while junior Gabe Vogel pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.
South Pasadena (11-9 overall, 3-2 in league) will visit La Cañada for a Rio Hondo League game on April 8 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting the Spartans on April 9.
