Boys’ Tennis: Doubles Sweep Lifts Tigers Over Monrovia

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ tennis team picked up a 16-2 victory at Monrovia in a Rio Hondo League match on March 28.
The No. 1 doubles team of Aidan Liu and Lucas Cornforth swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, while the No. 3 pairing of Sebastian Thompson and Dylan West also swept with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3. The No. 2 tandem of Jean-Luc Andre and Christopher Wong won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-3. Andre alternated with Emett Mendel, and the new duo added a 6-2 victory to complete the sweep.
In singles play, No. 1 Emilio Lois swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2. No. 2 Max Slattery (6-2, 6-4) and No. 3 David Chong (6-1, 6-3) each won a pair of sets.
The Tigers (9-1 overall, 4-1 in league) will visit Burbank for a nonleague match on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Temple City on April 12.
