Boys’ Volleyball: Tigers Sweep Culver City in Nonleague Matchup

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ volleyball team swept visiting Culver City, 25-15, 25-10, 25-13, in a nonleague match on March 11, as junior James Dowd registered 14 kills, six blocks, five digs and three aces.
Senior Ian Chang racked up 26 assists, seven digs, three kills and three blocks, while senior Ryan Estanislao contributed 17 digs and three aces. Junior Martin Walsh finished with eight digs and six kills, senior Nigel Mundara produced five digs, two assists and one kill, and senior Kai Munoz recorded five digs, two aces and one kill. Senior Isaiah Hyun chipped in two kills and one block, sophomore Kyle Kirchen tallied one kill and one block, and sophomore Wyatt Morimoto-Woo collected two digs.
The Tigers were swept by visiting Sunny Hills High of Fullerton, 22-25, 20-25, 19-25, in a nonleague match on March 7.
Chang was credited with 26 assists, four digs and one kill, Dowd recorded 11 kills, two blocks and two digs, and Walsh produced nine kills and eight digs. Junior Jacob Chuang contributed five kills, two digs, one ace and one block, while Mundara registered seven digs, one kill, one ace and one assist. Estanislao tallied eight digs, while Hyun and Morimoto-Woo each had one dig.
South Pasadena lost in five games to visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 21-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 12-15, in a nonleague match on March 5.
Dowd finished with 12 kills, six blocks and six digs, while junior Jack Pellerin registered nine kills, three blocks, three digs and one ace. Walsh produced seven kills and two aces, while Chuang contributed six blocks and five kills. Estanislao was credited with 37 digs and one ace, Chang racked up 30 assists, 10 digs and one kill, and Mundara tallied 13 digs and six assists. Kirchen recorded nine blocks, two kills and two digs, while Hyun collected seven digs. Morimoto-Woo had three digs and one ace, while freshman Lorcan Swift had one block.
South Pasadena (6-5 overall) will visit San Marino for a Rio Hondo League match on March 19 at 4 p.m. before hosting Temple City on March 21.
