Softball: Kan Lifts South Pasadena to Nonleague Win

The South Pasadena High School varsity softball team secured a narrow 5-4 nonleague victory at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Cañada Flintridge on March 5.
Natalie Kan, who slugged a three-run home run, pitched a seven-inning complete game with six strikeouts. She allowed four unearned runs on five hits and one walk to earn the win.
Danica Stirling recorded a double and a run, while Leila Nolasco and Caitlyn Colmenares each finished with a hit, an RBI and a run. Megan Sung tallied a base hit, while Juliana Mostert walked twice and scored once.
The Tigers defeated visiting Los Angeles Sacred Heart of Jesus 5-1 in an extra-inning nonleague game on March 4. Lucia Atencio pitched a nine-inning complete game with seven strikeouts, allowing one earned run on four hits and six walks to earn the win.
Stirling went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, while Kan went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk. Sung registered a double, while Emma Becerra finished with a hit and a run. Racquel Dominguez, Talula Bearden and Mostert each tallied a base hit, while Adelaide Bertolina and Sydney Lee each scored a run.
South Pas was shut out at Temple City 2-0 in its Rio Hondo League opener on March 1.
Kan, who recorded the team’s only base hit, pitched a six-inning complete game with four strikeouts.
The Tigers (3-4 overall, 0-1 in league) will host Maranatha High of Pasadena for a nonleague game on March 11 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting San Marino on March 12.
