South Pas Boys Unable to Upend Monrovia

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ soccer team narrowly lost at Monrovia 2-1 in a Rio Hondo League matchup on Jan. 30.
Sophomore Leo Sanchez chipped in one goal, senior Sawyer Fox finished with one assist and sophomore Mick Dubester made one save.
The Tigers tied visiting Temple City 2-2 in a league match on Jan. 26.
Sophomore Sam Rodak recorded one goal and one assist, senior Joe Hwang scored one goal, and junior Joel Kim was credited with one assist.
South Pas was shut out by visiting La Cañada 3-0 in a league match on Jan. 24.
The Tigers (6-4-3 overall, 4-2-3 in league) visited Blair High in Pasadena for their regular-season finale on Feb. 1; the league match ended after the Review’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. South Pasadena will be in Division III.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
The South Pas varsity girls’ squad was shut out in back-to-back Rio Hondo League matchups. The Tigers fell to Temple City, 3-0, on Jan. 26, and were defeated by Monrovia, 1-0, on Jan. 30. The Tigers previously lost 2-1 at La Cañada in a league match on Jan. 24. Individual statistics were not reported to the Review.
South Pasadena finished the campaign fifth in league with a 1-6-1 record (4-8-2 overall).
