Tigers Host MLK Showcase, Top Narbonne

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Narbonne High of Harbor City 82-57 in its 2024 MLK Showdown game on Jan. 15 as senior Russell Williams racked up 20 points, three steals, three rebounds, two blocks and two assists.
Senior Derek Peterson poured in 19 points with five assists, two steals and two rebounds, while junior Jack Madison tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist. Junior Sebastian Martinez finished with six points, three steals and one assist, while junior Kevin Hu recorded six points, two assists, one steal and one rebound. Junior Miles Nowe produced six points, one rebound and one assist, while junior Jacob Arias contributed five points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. Junior Oni Balogun chipped in two points, two rebounds and one assist, while senior Aren Barles registered two points, one steal and one rebound. Senior Gavin Faulmino scored two points, while sophomore Kaden Anderson was credited with four assists and one rebound.
The Tigers secured a 78-60 victory over Saugus in their Fairfax Takeover Showcase game on Jan. 13, as Madison posted a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and one block.
Nowe poured in 14 points with six steals, six assists and five rebounds, while Peterson registered 14 points, two assists, one steal and one rebound. Arias finished with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Martinez tallied 10 assists, nine points and one steal. Anderson contributed six points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist, junior Lucas Miller recorded three points, two rebounds, one block and one assist, and Balogun chipped in three points and one rebound.
South Pasadena routed visiting Monrovia 81-39 in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 12 as Williams racked up 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Miller scored 11 points, Nowe finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists, and Peterson registered 10 points, three rebounds, two blocks and one assist. Balogun tallied eight points, three assists, one steal and one rebound, Madison recorded seven points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal, and Arias produced six points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Anderson chipped in four points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, Martinez contributed five assists, three points, one steal and one rebound, and Hu had two points, one rebound and one assist.
The Tigers defeated host Temple City 70-33 in a league game on Jan. 10.
Peterson poured in 18 points with three rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal, while Williams finished with 14 points, six assists and two steals. Madison posted a double-double with 11 rebounds, 10 points, two steals and two assists, while Arias recorded a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists. Martinez tallied seven points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals, while Balogun registered five points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal. Miller contributed six rebounds, two points and one block, Nowe had four assists, three rebounds and two blocks, and Barles was credited with one assist.
South Pasadena (14-5 overall, 3-1 in league) will visit San Marino for a league game on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Jan. 20.
