Suspects Arrested After Crash, Police Chase

Two suspects were arrested last Thursday for identity theft, drug possession and eluding police after trying to escape a traffic stop in South Pasadena, police said in a statement.
On Jan. 11 at about 2 a.m., a South Pasadena police officer on routine patrol witnessed two vehicles engaged in suspicious activity near the 2000 block of Pine Street.
Both vehicles committed the same traffic infraction and the officer attempted to pull them over. Both accelerated to try to elude the traffic stop, the SPPD said. The driver of one of the vehicles lost control during a turn and crashed into a traffic signal in the 1100 block of West Commonwealth Avenue in the city of Alhambra.
The vehicle was disabled, and two female suspects fled from the vehicle and ran into a nearby business. The other vehicle continued speeding away. Police officers detained the driver of the disabled vehicle, a 27- year-old female, and the 28-year-old passenger, both residents of Garden Grove. One suspect is on probation for theft, was driving on a suspended driver’s license, and has an active no-bail warrant previously issued for her arrest.
Officers located evidence of identity theft and drug possession during their investigation. The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding, identity theft, drug possession and driving on a suspended license. She is being held pending arraignment and will then be released to the custody of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for the no-bail warrant. The passenger was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and was released with a citation following her booking.
Police are seeking more information and encourage anyone with knowledge about the matter to contact the SPPD at (626) 403-7297. To make an anonymous tip, call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
