Design Concepts for 2025 Float Due Jan. 26

Concept designs are due Jan. 26 for the 2025 South Pasadena float that will participate in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1. This year’s float, an award-winner in the 2024 parade named “Boogie Fever,” recently returned to its home site in the parking lot of the War Memorial Building.
Next year’s parade theme is “Celebrate Life’s Special Moments.” Those are, according to the Tournament of Roses, “moments that excite us, motivate us and fill us with joy. From a once-in-a-lifetime experience to the simplest of pleasures. These are the times that are forever etched into our memory.”
A simple drawing is all that is required as this is the “concept” stage of the design, according to the entry form. The sketch must be in black and white, in pencil or pen on paper no larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Multiple submissions are permitted. Design concepts will be judged based on relevance to the parade theme, practicality and popular appeal, organizers said.
“I encourage the community to get creative and help us design another award-winning float,” said Ed Donnelly, South Pasadena Tournament of Roses president by email.
The entry and release form can be found at sptor.org/Volunteer. The completed document can be mailed to the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Design Committee, P.O. Box 3662, South Pasadena, CA 91031.
It can be delivered or mailed to the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, 1121 Mission St., South Pasadena, CA 91030.
Entries must be postmarked by Jan. 26 or received by the Chamber by 5 p.m. the same day.

First published in the January 12 print issue of the South Pasadena Review.
