South Pas Overwhelms Blair in League Opener

The South Pasadena High School varsity girls’ water polo team routed host Blair High in Pasadena 23-3 in its Rio Hondo League opener on Dec. 12 as sophomore Amaya Mahler and freshman Ruby Meyer each racked up five goals.
Freshman Hayun Lee tallied four goals, while sophomore Cora Bild scored three goals. Sophomores Riis Dickey and Ellen Leung each chipped in two goals, while senior Liz Petty and junior Lana Encinas each finished with one goal.
The Tigers lost at Marlborough High in Los Angeles 17-5 in a nonleague game on Dec. 7. Meyer and Encinas each recorded two goals, while Petty had one goal.
SPHS (7-4 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league game on Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. before visiting San Marino on Jan. 9.
