The South Pasadena High School dance program featured two evening performances of the Winter Dance Concert on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 in the Anderson Auditorium. Before opening night, director and choreographer Courtney Cheyne called the 64 performers to the stage for a final dress rehearsal of a show, which featured student choreographers as well as choreography from ballet instructor Claire Kucera, contemporary instructor Megan Paradowski and hip hop instructor Marc Miranda. Act I, “Step into the Light” was billed as “a reflection of our personal journey, highlighting the significance of uncovering our inner resilience.” The theme of Act II was “Barbie.” The “Color Day” performance was a fun finale in a program that embraced contemporary, rap, pop and classical music to highlight the depth of the dancers’ range as well as their growth as performers.
