The South Pasadena High School varsity baseball team won its third straight Rio Hondo League game by defeating host Temple City, 3-1, last Friday, tying the Tigers and the Rams (7-4 league records) for second place in the league standings.

Sophomore Owen Woodworth pitched three innings to earn the win, allowing one earned run on one hit and a pair of walks with two strikeouts.

He then handed the ball to senior Alex Hodis, who tossed four scoreless innings of relief to earn the save, allowing three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Sophomore Nolan Adams paced the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Devin Robinson produced a base hit and a run scored, senior Garrett Haley tallied a base hit, and junior Jason Yipp scored once.

SPHS (15-7 overall) traveled to first-place Monrovia for their regular-season finale; the result was unavailable by the South Pasadena Review’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Tigers will learn their postseason fate when the CIF-SS bracket is released on Monday, May 2, at 10 a.m.
