Alice Mgrublian | Obituary

Alice Mgrublian passed away on February 25, 2022, at the Ararat Home of Los Angeles.

Born Alice Madlin Kalpakjian on July 16, 1924, in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of Serop and Repega Kalpakjian.

She spent her childhood in Montreal and in 1947 immigrated to the United States to further her accounting career. She worked for Rexall Drugs and Jerseymaid Dairies, made friends, and joined many social groups.

She also met Harold Mgrublian on a “chance” dinner with their families. They were married in 1958 and settled in South Pasadena.

Alice was very active in St James Episcopal Church’s St. Agnes Guild, El Centro and Monterrey Hills PTSA, South Pasadena High School Career Center, the South Pasadena/San Marino YMCA, Daughters of Vartan, the San Gabriel Valley Ararat Guild, and volunteering every election day at the Monterey Hills poll.

Alice was a lifelong learner and could be found in her family room listening to political talk shows while surrounded by stacks of magazines, newspapers, books, and crossword puzzles. In later years, she was particularly grateful for the South Pasadena Senior Center lunch program.

She is survived by David (Margaret) and Diane (Ronald), and granddaughters Kathryn (Nerses) Aposhian, Madlyn Mgrublian, and Taleen Mitchell. Alice was predeceased by Harold in 2019.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
