South Pasadena High sophomore Elizabeth Rosenberg starred in the field events during the Tigers’ dual meet against Temple City, winning both the discus and shot put as the girls’ track and field team routed the Rams 99-4.
The South Pasadena boys’ track and field team also defeated Temple City, winning 74-25 to secure the dual meet sweep.
Rosenberg won the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 7 inches and the discus event, with a 87-1 throw.
The sophomore leads the Rio Hondo League in the discus with the No. 2 all-time South Pasadena mark of 94-2 from the La Cañada dual meet and is third in League with 31-0 in the shot put, or the No. 4 all-time South Pasadena mark.
Tigers senior Simone Assaf won the long jump with a leap of 17-6, the No. 8 all-time school mark. In the triple jump, sophomore Madeline Park’s jump of 33-6 ½ was good enough for a first-place finish.
On the track, junior Abigail Errington won the 800-meter race with a personal-record time of 2 minutes, 18.19 seconds. She also won the 3,200 in 10:53.05.
Tigers junior Jackie Sides scored a personal-record time of 12.62 in the 100 to win the event. She also won the 200 in 26.03.
In the 1,600, junior Saidbh Byrne finished with a personal record 5:19.28, and in the 400, junior Perri Koo won the 400 race in 1:02.14.
Winners in the boys’ field events included senior Levi Bar-Cohen, who won the long jump (21-7 ½), junior Omar Soufi, who won the shot put (48-6 ½), and senior Daniel Sanchez, who won the discus in 106-1.
The track events featured Tigers senior Keeran Murray in the 400, winning the race in 50.54. South Pas junior Rocket McDonald raced in the 800 and won in 2:05.15, junior Noah Aldana was victorious in the 1,600 in 4:43.34, junior Adam Elsayed won the 3,200 in 10:48.59 and junior Peter Dickinson finished the 300-meter hurdle in 42.16 for first.
The Rio Hondo League track and field prelims will be held April 23 and finals are scheduled for April 26.
The CIF Southern Section Track and Field Championships will begin with the prelims at Yorba Linda High on May 4, with the finals held at Moorpark High School on May 11.
