Swimming: South Pas Captures Girls’ Rio Hondo League Crown

Swimmers from participating Rio Hondo League schools came together at La Cañada High on April 24 vying for individual and collective titles.
The South Pasadena High girls’ swimming team did just that, fending off host La Cañada for the team title, 490-393.
Ana Mancera-Rodriguez won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 9.48 seconds. Ellen Leung finished fifth in the event with a time of 2:31.61, Milla Humphrey was sixth with a time of 2:37.30 and Audrey Zheng placed seventh with a time of 2:37.61.
In the 500 freestyle, Samantha Wong secured second with a time of 5:05.41, while Abigail Kim finished fifth with a time of 6:16.19.
Wong also earned second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.31.
Mancera-Rodriguez claimed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.09.
The 200 medley relay team of Leung, Mancera-Rodriguez, Wong and Chloe Kim finished second with a time of 1:55.97. Similarly, the 200 free relay team of Amaya Mahler, Elaine Kim, Humphrey and Emiko Essmiller secured second with a time of 1:48.01. The 400-free relay team of Chloe Kim, Elaine Kim, Wong and Mancera-Rodriguez finished third with a time of 3:46.11.
In the 100 free, Chloe Kim secured third with a time of 56.75 and Elaine Kim finished fifth with a time of 58.74.
Leung finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.60 and Nadia Cho secured fourth with a time of 1:10.59.
Chloe Kim finished fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.03 and Elaine Kim secured sixth with a time of 26.72.
Essmiller secured fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.49 and Wai placed sixth with a time of 1:07.56.
Meanwhile, the Tigers boys’ team finished fourth overall in the league championships after posting 273 team points.
The 200 medley relay team of Ethan Kang, Gabriel Chiu, Grant Judkins and Kyler Ho secured fourth with a time of 1:44.81. Similarly, the 200 free relay team of Philip Lim, Noah Park, Judkins and Ho finished fourth with a time of 1:36.31. In the 400 free relay, Jackson Lesnever, Ho, Lim and Park clinched fourth with a time of 3:32.70.
Kang finished sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.44 and Ethan Jung finished eighth with a time of 1:00.61.
Judkins secured sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.96, while Chiu finished eighth with a time of 1:03.23.
Park finished seventh in the 50 free with a time of 23.97, followed by Yang in eighth with a time of 24.07.
Lesnever secured eighth in the 100 free with a time of 51.56, followed by Sean Lin in 13th with a time of 55.15.
Park finished eighth in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.89, followed by Jackson Wingard in 10th with a time of 2:02.29.
Jung secured ninth in the 500 free with a time of 5:32.98, followed by Yuvin Lee in 12th with a time of 6:27.25.
Judkins finished 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.11, while Ho secured 11th with a time of 56.52.
In the 200 IM, Lim finished 11th with a time of 2:08.51, followed by Kang in 13th with a time of 2:15.71.
The South Pasadena swim teams will be competing at the CIF Southern Section Swimming & Diving Championships at Mt. San Antonion, with both groups competing on Friday, May 3. The Tigers girls are in Division II contention, while the boys are in Division III.
