Baseball: Tigers Edge La Cañada in League Shutout

The South Pasadena High School varsity baseball team secured a narrow 1-0 Rio Hondo League victory over visiting La Cañada High on April 9. Senior Nolan Adams pitched a complete game shutout with four strikeouts, three hits and no walks.
Junior Leo Castillo recorded a double and a run, while senior Jesse Chavez and sophomore Aaron Kawasaki each tallied a base hit. Senior Luke Riffle was credited with an RBI, senior Griffin Johnson walked once and junior Nathan Olivarez finished with a stolen base.
The Tigers overwhelmed visiting La Cañada with a 9-0 league victory on April 8. Junior Ben Regan pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts, two walks and one hit.
Adams went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs, two stolen bases, an RBI and a walk, Castillo went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, and senior Elijah Garcia went 2-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Kawasaki recorded a triple, an RBI, a run and a walk, while senior Devin Robinson contributed a double, an RBI and a run. Johnson finished with a hit, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, while Riffle registered a hit, a run and a stolen base. Junior Charlie Vogel tallied a hit and an RBI, while Chavez walked once.
South Pasadena secured a narrow 3-2 victory over visiting La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena in a nonleague game on April 4. Junior Jon Bracamonte, who carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, pitched a complete game with two strikeouts to earn the win.
Johnson went 2-for-3, while Riffle, Garcia, Robinson and Kawasaki each had a hit. Chavez was credited with an RBI and a walk, while Adams walked once and scored a run. Junior Harley Arrieta and Olivarez each scored a run, while Castillo walked once.
South Pasadena (14-9 overall, 5-2 in league) will visit San Marino for a league game on April 15 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting the Titans on April 18.
