Tiger Cub News Tackles First National Competition

For the first time ever, members of the South Pasadena Middle School’s Tiger Cub News group competed at the 2024 Student Television Network National Convention held in Long Beach. The event featured more than 300 middle and high schools.
Twenty-four SPMS students attended the conference from March 14 through 17, and various groups competed in different categories. One group, consisting of Oz Englender, Owen Hou, Daron Karayan, Maddox Northrup, Benjamin Olivarez and Mateo Phippard brought home second place in the Personal Vlog Category. For this competition, the team had six hours to plan, film, edit and upload a video around Long Beach based on the prompt, “One thing about me is …”
Broadcast journalism teacher Danielle Loo led the students in their first convention and competition.
