Boys’ Tennis: Tigers Complete Season Sweep of San Marino

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ tennis team edged visiting San Marino 10-8 victory in a Rio Hondo League match on March 26.
In singles, No. 1 Aidan Liu (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Lucas Cornforth (6-1, 6-4) and No. 3 Emilio Lois (6-0, 6-2) each won a pair of sets. The No. 1 doubles team of Christopher Wong and Zachary Lee won two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4, while the No. 2 tandem of Sebastian Thompson and Emett Mendel also won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-4.
The Tigers shut out visiting Glendora 18-0 in a nonleague game on March 25 as No. 2 singles Cornforth swept with a trio of identical 6-1 scores.
No. 1 Liu swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-4, while No. 3 Lois swept with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-3. The No. 1 doubles team of Wong and Lee won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Max Slattery rotated with Wong, and the new duo added a 6-2 victory. The No. 2 tandem of Thompson and Mendel won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Alternates Louis Jones and David Chong added a third-set victory with a 6-1 score. The No. 3 pairing of Jean-Luc Andre and Dylan West swept with scores of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-3.
South Pasadena suffered a 14-4 loss to visiting La Cañada in a league match on March 22.
The No. 1 doubles team of Liu and Cornforth won a pair of sets with scores of 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (7-0). The No. 2 tandem of Mendel and Lee won a set with a 6-4 score, while No. 1 Wong won a set with a 6-2 score.
South Pasadena (8-1 overall, 3-1 in league) will visit Burbank for a nonleague match on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Temple City on April 12.
