Softball: South Pas Bats Come Alive in League Victory

The South Pasadena High School varsity softball team defeated visiting San Marino 12-2 in a Rio Hondo League game on March 12.
Danica Stirling went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, while Natalie Kan, who walked twice, scored a run and stole a base, pitched a five-inning complete game with three strikeouts. Leila Nolasco went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, while Talula Bearden recorded a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk. Ava Dawson finished with two walks, two runs and an RBI, Juliana Mostert tallied two walks and two RBIs, and Adelaide Bertolina and Sydney Lee each scored a run.
The Tigers routed host Maranatha High in Pasadena 14-0 in a nonleague game on March 11. Lucia Atencio pitched a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Stirling went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and an RBI, Emma Becerra and Bearden each went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Kan registered a double, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Mostert finished with a hit, two RBIs and a run, Nolasco recorded a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, and Megan Sung tallied a hit and an RBI. Lee walked once, scored a run and stole a base, while Claire Shanley and Dawson each scored a run.
South Pasadena suffered a 15-3 loss against visiting La Cañada in a league game on March 8.
Sung went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, while Kan, who had a double and a run at the plate, pitched a five-inning complete game with two strikeouts. Lee registered a hit and a run, Mostert and Bearden each tallied a base hit, and Dawson walked once.
South Pasadena (5-5 overall, 1-2 in league) will host Temple City for a league game on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Mayfield Senior on March 21.
