Boys’ Tennis: Tigers Stun San Marino in League Opener

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ tennis team opened Rio Hondo League play against San Marino on March 12 and battled the Titans in a tightly contested matchup.
That proved to be the case in the result. Just one game separated the Tigers and the perennial league champion Titans as South Pasadena defeated San Marino in games, 9-9 (72-71).
In singles play, No. 1 Aidan Liu (6-2, 6-2) and No. 2 Lucas Cornforth (6-2, 6-3) each won a pair of sets, while No. 3 Emilio Lois added a 6-3 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Emett Mendel and Sebastian Thompson won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-4. The No. 1 tandem of Christopher Wong and Zachary Lee (6-0) and the No. 3 pairing of Jean-Luc Andre and Dylan West (6-1) each won a set.
The Tigers (4-0 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Temple City for a league match on March 15 at 4 p.m. before traveling to Blair High in Pasadena on March 19.
