The South Pasadena High School varsity softball team picked up a 13-2 season-opening victory against visiting Westridge School of Pasadena on Feb. 13.
Lucia Atencio tossed a five-inning complete game with 10 strikeouts while allowing five hits, two walks and two earned runs. She also contributed at the plate with a hit, two RBIs and a walk.
Daphne Malatesta went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs, an RBI and a walk, while Danica Stirling went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Talula Bearden recorded a hit, three runs, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base, Natalie Kan finished with a hit, three runs, two walks and a stolen base, and Emma Becerra registered a double and two runs. Leila Nolasco tallied one RBI and a walk, while Ava Dawson walked once.
South Pas (1-0 overall) will host Schurr High of Montebello for a nonleague game on Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Los Angeles Sacred Heart of Jesus on Feb. 22.
