South Pas Offense Thrives in League Matchup

The South Pasadena High School varsity girls’ water polo team routed visiting Blair High of Pasadena 17-1 in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 18.
Sophomore Amaya Mahler racked up five goals, while sophomore Ellen Leung recorded four goals. Junior Lana Encinas and freshman Ruby Meyer each scored three goals, while sophomores Riis Dickey and Milla Humphrey each chipped in one goal.
The Tigers competed in the Buena Friendlies Tournament and finished with a 1-2 record after narrowly losing to Thousand Oaks 7-6 in their finale on Jan. 20. Meyer finished with five goals, while junior Sabine Ornelas had one goal.
SPHS lost to Buena High of Ventura 10-2 in a tournament game on Jan. 19, as senior Liz Petty and freshman Hayun Lee each scored one goal.
The Tigers picked up a 10-3 tournament-opening victory against Rio Mesa High of Oxnard on Jan. 19.
Sophomore Cora Bild registered three goals, Meyer and Ornelas each tallied two goals, and junior Cleo Walker, Encinas and Lee each produced one goal.
South Pas (12-8 overall, 4-2 in league) will host Temple City for a league game on Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. before visiting La Cañada for its regular-season finale on Feb. 1.
