The South Pasadena High School varsity girls’ soccer team edged visiting La Cañada 2-1 in a Rio Hondo League match on Dec. 15.
Senior captain Iris Pollard scored a pair of goals, while senior captain Simone Assaf and junior Saidbh Byrne were each credited with one assist.
The Tigers were shut out at San Marino 1-0 in their league opener on Dec. 13.
The South Pas recently finished competing in the Best in the West Tournament, suffering a 1-0 loss against Laguna Hills and posting a 1-1 tie against Royal High of Simi Valley on Dec. 16. Byrne scored the lone goal against Royal High, while Assaf tallied an assist.
SPHS (4-2 overall, 1-1 in league) will resume league play by hosting Temple C
ity on Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. before visiting Monrovia on Jan. 12.
BOYS’ SOCCER
The South Pasadaena varsity boys’ soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against host La Cañada in a Rio Hondo League game on Dec. 15.
Junior Joel Kim scored one goal, junior captain Emilio Gonzalez-Mosqueda was credited with an assist and sophomore Mick Dubester finished with five saves. Sophomore Sam Rodak recorded two shots on goal, while senior Evan Takeda-Teer and sophomore Leo Sanchez each had one shot on goal.
The Tigers shut out visiting San Marino 4-0 in their league opener on Dec. 13 as Rodak scored a hat trick.
Sanchez chipped in with one goal, senior captain Joe Hwang, senior Sawyer Fox and Gonzalez-Mosqueda each had one assist, and Kim produced three shots on goal. Dubester tallied four saves, junior Austin Hwang had one save.
SPHS (3-3-1, 1-0-1) will resume league play at Temple City on Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. before hosting Monrovia on Jan. 12.
