SPHS Finishes Strong at Rose City Roundball Classic

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Muir High of Pasadena 66-54 to finish fifth in the Rose City Roundball Classic on Dec. 2
Senior Russell Williams racked up 22 points, six steals, five rebounds and three assists, while senior Derek Peterson registered 14 points, five assists, one block and one rebound. Junior Jack Madison tallied six points, six rebounds, one block and one steal, while junior Oni Balogun contributed six points, five steals, two rebounds and two assists. Junior Lucas Miller produced four points, four rebounds and one block, junior Miles Nowe finished with three points, three assists and two steals, and senior Gavin Faulmino chipped in three points, two steals and one rebound. Junior Kevin Hu recorded two points, two rebounds and one steal, junior Sebastian Martinez was credited with three assists, two points and two steals, and senior Taj Ringer collected three rebounds and two points. Meanwhile, sophomore Kaden Anderson had two rebounds, one steal and one assist.
The Tigers suffered a 70-65 loss against Pasadena in a Rose City Roundball Classic Game on Nov. 29.
Peterson racked up 23 points, five assists and four rebounds, Williams contributed 22 points, five rebounds, three steals, three assists and one block, and Madison produced 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and one assist. Balogun finished with three assists, two points and one rebound, Martinez recorded two points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, and Nowe chipped in two points and one rebound.
The Tigers (4-1 overall) will host Dorsey High of Los Angeles for a nonleague game on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. before opening Rio Hondo League action against visiting San Marino on Dec. 13.
