During the past month, the advanced sports medicine students at South Pasadena High School visited P.E. classes to demonstrate foam-rolling and self-stretching exercises using a stretch strap in preparation for Athlete Recovery Day.
They also practiced their proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques and used percussive therapy devices.
Athlete Recovery Day is an occasion when student athletes receive treatment from advanced sports medicine students to help them recover from the physical demands of athletics. The students also enjoy the hands-on opportunities to share exercises and skills they have learned.
Introduction to sports medicine students, who were wrapping up a unit on emergency procedures, practiced spine boarding as one part of the overall lesson. CTE teacher Andre Zumaeta led the sports medicine students using various activities to expose them to this career field.
