Tigers Unbeaten Following Tournament Runs

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ basketball team picked up an 82-76 victory over Alemany High of Mission Hills in its Rose City Classic opener on Nov. 27 to remain unbeaten in the early portion of the season.
Junior Oni Balogun racked up 23 points, three assists, one steal and one rebound, while senior Russell Williams registered 21 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals. Junior Jack Madison finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, two assists and one block, junior Miles Nowe tallied 14 points, including four 3-pointers, two rebounds, one steal and one assist, and senior Derek Peterson recorded nine points, six assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block. Senior Taj Ringer collected five rebounds, while junior Sebastian Martinez had one block and one assist.
The Tigers defeated Bosco Tech High of Rosemead 76-65 in a 2023 Titan Turkey Shootout game on Nov. 25.
Peterson contributed 29 points, one rebound and one assist, while Williams produced 25 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Madison tallied 10 rebounds, seven points, four blocks and two assists, Nowe chipped in eight points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, and Martinez recorded eight assists, three points, two steals and two rebounds. Balogun finished with two points, two rebounds and two assists, junior Kevin Hu registered two assists and one rebound, and Ringer had one rebound.
Following the completion of the Rose City Classic on Dec. 2, SPHS (3-0 overall) will host a pair of nonleague games against Franklin High and Dorsey High of Los Angeles on Dec. 6 and 8. The Tigers will open Rio Hondo League action by hosting San Marino on Dec. 13.
