Tigers Eye Postseason Return

The South Pasadena High School varsity basketball program is looking forward to the 2023-24 season as the Tigers open up the campaign this week. The Tigers are focused on surpassing last season’s third-place Rio Hondo League finish and securing its fourth consecutive postseason appearance.
“The [Rio Hondo League] will go down to the wire again this year, it will be a ton of fun,” Baskerville told the South Pasadena Review.
While the team bid farewell to five seniors last academic year, the majority of last season’s roster is making a return. Russell Williams, who averaged an impressive 24 points per game and earned first-team all-league honors, leads the returning players. The roster also includes familiar faces like Derek Peterson, Sebastian Martinez, Miles Nowe, Oni Balogun, Taj Ringer, Jack Madison and Lucas Miller. The Tigers are also excited to integrate newcomers Kaden Anderson, Jacob Arias, Gavin Faulmino and Kevin Hu into the mix.
“Our team’s strength is our speed and shooting. We like to get the ball up the court [quickly] and score. Rather than it be from out of bounds after a bucket, or from our pressure defense causing a turnover, we love to get up the court in a hurry,” Baskerville said. “This group really loves to play together and share the ball so you never know who our leading scorer would be on any given night.”
South Pasadena will open the regular season by competing against Camarillo in a Battle by the Beach Showcase game on Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
