The Review
South Pasadena junior Abigail Errington was once again the first to cross the finish line in a cross-country meet, this time clocking in at 17 minutes, 44.1 seconds at the 44th annual Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno on Oct. 7.
Her first-place performance — a new school record — helped the Tigers win the medium school size division of the race. Her time was the eighth best among all runners across all divisions.
The Tigers scored 97 points at the event, and the group’s collective time of 1:35.29 set a school record. South Pasadena finished ahead of second-place Maria Carrillo High of Santa Rosa and third-place Yorba Linda High.
Tigers junior Saidbh Byrne was the next South Pasadena finisher in the race, clocking in at 18:32.2 in sixth place. Tigers junior Sofia Humphrey (19:15.7, 16th place), sophomore Rose Vandevelde (20:00.3, 41st place), junior Chloe Koo (20:05.0, 45th place), sophomore Raden Estridge (20:17.6, 53rd place) and sophomore Amada Cortes (21:02.1, 97th place) rounded out the rest of the team finishes.
Meanwhile, the South Pasadena boys’ cross-country team finished fifth in the medium school size division of the invitational, scoring 250 points and lead by Tigers freshman Michael Scarince who finished 20th in 16:07.2. Scarince’s finish broke the previous record (16:59) set by Sam Pons in 2007.
Tigers junior Noah Aldana (16:24.1, 27th), senior Keenan Murray (16:43.2, 45th), sophomore Kai Tilley (17:07.6, 78th), senior Jarvia Kikekawa (17:17.1, 93rd), junior Adam Ruiz (17:18.4, 96th) and junior Adam Elsayed (17:29.8, 109th) followed Scarince in the event.
St. John Bosco won the team race with 148 points.
Woodward Park is the site of the CIF State Cross Country Championships scheduled for Nov. 25.
