Many Monterey Hills Elementary School families came out to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the El Festival Welcome Back Picnic on Friday, Sept. 29.
The event, which was organized by the PTA’s Dual Immersion Committee, included craft and game booths, as well as Latin-themed entertainment. From Danza Azteca, to Zumba with Carrie, to a student rock band who performed in Spanish, the crowd seemed to enjoy the variety.
Local businesses joined the festivities, with Guisados donating 100% of their proceeds to Monterey Hills Elementary. Waffling Around donated 50% of their proceeds and No Days Off Coffee offered a special Latin Heritage coffee with $1 per drink going toward benefitting the school.
Representatives from various groups like Cub Scouts Pack 139, Encore Music, Language Lab and D.U.D.E.S. also came out in an effort to help connect families with resources and get plugged into the community.
