Senior Allysan Tse had a team-high 25 points and eight rebounds while her sister, sophomore Dylan Tse, collected 22 points, seven rebounds and two steals for the Tigers, who cruised to an easy victory after a 29-point third quarter outburst put South Pasadena up 59-29.
“The girls were motivated going into halftime only up by nine,” said SPHS head coach Cody Masden, whose team improved its overall record to 15-2. “We couldn’t really get things going offensively in the first half but we just kept it light during halftime. Then we just came out and started a full-court press [then went] into a zone defense. It was really a commitment to defense that did it for us.”
Junior Lotis Shoun scored six points while senior Isabella Alfonso and sophomore Yuzu Harada each finished with three points.
South Pasadena traveled to Paramount (19-6 record) for a second-round matchup last night; the result was unavailable by the Review’s press deadline. If the Tigers are victorious, they will meet either Los Angeles Brentwood School (19-10 overall) or San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea (19-4) in a quarterfinal game this Saturday, Feb. 19.
