South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee to Throw Two-Day Yard Sale

The South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Float committee will host a giant yard sale at the War Memorial Building on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.
The event is crucial to the committee’s fundraising efforts for South Pasadena’s iconic volunteer-built and self-funded float. Bargain hunters, vintage enthusiasts and thrifting fans are invited to hunt for treasures.
In addition to building the float, South Pasadena’s 17-member Tournament of Roses committee must raise $150,000 to fund the endeavor each year. Participation in SPTOR’s yard sale directly contributes to making South Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses entry a reality.
“We aim to raise several thousands of dollars,” said Steve Fillingham, yard sale co-coordinator and member of the SPTOR committee. “This is an important part of our fundraising efforts each year. Last year, we had more than 200 shoppers each day,” he estimated.
The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 17 and 18 at the War Memorial Building at 435 Fair Oaks Ave. in South Pasadena. Parking is available in the War Memorial Building parking lot and on Fair Oaks Avenue. Fillingham advises those parking on Fair Oaks to “turn your wheels to the curb.”
All sale items are donated by community members. Collectibles, tools, electronics, antiques, furniture, dishware, jewelry, children’s items and many other treasures can be found at the “garage sale on steroids” — all at bargain prices.
