Dubester, Tigers Hold Monrovia to Scoreless Draw

The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ soccer team settled for a scoreless draw in its Rio Hondo League matchup against visiting Monrovia on Jan. 12 as sophomore goalie Mick Dubester recorded five saves.
Junior captain Emilio Gonzalez-Mosqueda, sophomore Sam Rodak and freshman Jackai Williams each registered two shots on goal, while sophomore Leo Sanchez had one shot on goal.
The Tigers shut out host Temple City 1-0 in a league match on Jan. 10.
Junior Ethan Kung scored the deciding goal, while junior goalie Austin Hwang finished with a pair of saves. Gonzalez-Mosqueda produced five shots on goal, while senior captain Joe Hwang tallied four shots on goal. Senior Sawyer Fox, sophomore Aidan Munoz, Rodak and Sanchez each had two shots on goal, while junior Rocket McDonald notched one shot on goal.
South Pasadena (4-3-2 overall, 2-0-2 in league) will visit San Marino for a league game on Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. before hosting La Cañada on Jan. 24.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
The South Pasadena varsity girls’ squad tied with visiting Temple City 2-2 in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 10 as senior captain Simone Assaf and sophomore Anna Kowal each scored one goal.
The Tigers lost at Monrovia 1-0 in a league game on Jan. 12.
South Pasadena (4-4-2, 1-2-1) will host San Marino for a league game on Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. before visiting La Cañada on Jan. 24.
