The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ water polo team defeated host Monrovia 12-6 in its Rio Hondo League and regular-season finale on Oct. 26.
Junior Kenta Fernandes recorded four goals, while junior Jackson Wingard tallied three goals. Junior Ferruccio Mastromatteo scored two goals, while senior Kyler Ho, senior Rowan Smith and freshman Tanner Yamagata each chipped in one goal.
South Pas, which finished third in league with a 6-4 record (10-17 overall), opened the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs at Charter Oak High in Covina (11-10) on Oct. 31; the game ended after the South Pasadena Review’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Tigers would advance to the second round and meet either Fontana (22-5) or Woodbridge High of Irvine (22-9) on Nov. 2
SPHS 14, LA CAÑADA 9
The Tigers posted a league victory over visiting La Cañada on Oct. 25, as Fernandes racked up seven goals. Junior Nathan Greene and Ho each registered two goals, while junior Theo Hilger, sophomore Diego Pizarro and Smith each added one goal.
TEMPLE CITY 13, SPHS 7
The Tigers suffered a league loss at Temple City on Oct. 24. Greene tallied four goals, while Ho, Fernandes and Smith each finished with one goal.
