Library Names Volunteers of the Year

The South Pasadena Public Library has honored Sally Kilby, Karen Sima and Pamela Kemp as volunteers of the year, and issued a special thanks to Nancy Lem.

The four women were recognized at a library volunteer recognition tea in the library’s community room on April 20.

Kilby was recognized for her dedication to the Friends of the Library and to the library — serving as Friends vice president and producing the group’s newsletter, which raised the profile of the library.

Sima was selected for her contributions as the Friends’ Board Membership chair. Under her leadership, membership of the Friends grew 66% in 2022, bringing in a total of more than $44,000.

Kemp was recognized for her many years of dedication to the Friends of the Library Bookstore where she has worked since 2006, while Lem was cited for her role in enhancing the image of the Friends by serving as art director and redesigning publications.

The mission of the Friends of the South Pasadena Library is to raise money and public awareness in the community in support of the library’s services and programs.

The hourlong celebration saluted the 79 adult volunteers who worked a total of 5,307 hours; and the 65 teen volunteers who worked 1,717 hours to help push forward a wide variety of library projects.

Josie Huang, a reporter from the local public radio station LAist, was the keynote speaker talking about “Telling Stories.”
